LONG BEACH : Officer Hurt in Shooting Accident at Practice Range

Share

A Long Beach police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg during an afternoon practice session at the department’s pistol range.

Officer Robert Luman Jr., 26, was in stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh during a simulated action practice in the combat side of the pistol range, authorities said. That side of the range is closed to the public.

It was unclear how Luman shot himself, but the two-year veteran of the department was participating in a practice that involved reloading a handgun while running and ducking behind police cars and trash drums, police said.
