Monrovia : Tennis Court Regulations
The City Council adopted regulations Tuesday for the construction of private, lighted tennis courts in the wake of an earlier controversy.
Neighbors fearing disruption from glaring lights complained earlier this year when plans for a lighted tennis court were approved by the council. On Tuesday, the council voted to allow tennis and other game courts, such as volleyball or racquetball, in all residential zones subject to proper setbacks from property lines.
The rules require property owners to show that court lighting will not inconvenience or annoy neighbors.
Assistant Community Development Director Robert Kastenbaum said such regulations had never been adopted because before last year there was only one private tennis court in the city. Now there are two, with a third under construction.
