Share

Law enforcement officers in Irvine and Westminster plan to operate a checkpoint today to remind drivers of a new seat belt law taking effect Jan. 1.

The new law will permit officers to stop vehicles in which the driver or passengers are not wearing a seat belt.

At this morning’s checkpoint, officers with the California Highway Patrol and local police departments will remind drivers of the new law and distribute pamphlets. Citations won’t be issued, officials said.
