LOS ANGELES : Officials Fail to Set Opening Date for Subway

Share

Transit officials met Monday and were unable to establish a firm start-up date for the opening of the city’s first subway.

Meanwhile, three weeks before the Red Line subway was initially scheduled to open, only four of 12 subway cars were ready Monday afternoon. When the Red Line is running, officials plan to use two four-car trains, with a third four-car train in reserve. So far, only a third of the subway cars are ready.

Transit officials had tentatively set Jan. 11--two months ahead of schedule--as a start-up date. This date has come into question as RTD officials have spelled out some of the difficulties that they are encountering during test runs.
