From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Navy recruiter was disciplined and another faced charges after female applicants complained they were ordered to strip so the men could take their measurements, the Navy said. Military investigators determined that 10 women were victims of the alleged sexual misconduct at the Navy recruiting station in Redding over a period of a year. One recruiter was disciplined by his commanding officer, while the Navy was considering whether to prosecute the second. A third recruiter was cleared of wrongdoing. The women were told falsely that stripping for measurements was a standard part of the recruiting process. Some of the women complied, officials said. Petty Officer 2nd Class Trevor Briggs, 26, was found in violation of a Navy code prohibiting fraternization or improper actions with applicants. Navy lawyers are considering charges against Petty Officer 1st Class Scott Crews, 30, who has been in the Navy 11 years.
