HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Taft Totals 77 Rebounds in 106-47 Victory
Johnny Williams hit 13 of 18 field-goal attempts for a game-high 28 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Taft High took advantage of its height advantage to score a 106-47 victory over Eagle Rock in a first-round game of the Eagle Rock tournament Saturday.
Taft had 77 rebounds, the highest total in Jim Woodard’s 12 years as coach.
In another boys’ game:
Victor Valley 64, Highland 55--Bulldog junior forward Pharoah Davis scored a game-high 22 points, but Highland (5-3) lost in a first-round game of the San Gorgonio tournament.
GIRLS
Bell-Jeff 69, Sacred Heart of Jesus 49--Senior point guard Lori Talley had her second triple-double of the season to help the Guards (9-2) rout Sacred Heart (6-3) in a first-round game of the Bell-Jeff tournament.
Bell-Jeff led, 46-16, at halftime. Talley scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 12 assists.
Thousand Oaks 77, Notre Dame 31--Marion Jones scored 25 points to lead the Lancers (9-0) in the first round of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Rio Mesa 36, Cabrillo 30--Debbie Douglas scored 13 points to lead Rio Mesa in a first-round game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Chino 61, Camarillo 35--Aimee Pina’s 24 points paced Chino in a first-round game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
