BIG NAMES: A number of local high school graduates will play in eight New Year’s Day bowl games. . . . Watch for Nebraska running back Derek Brown and Stanford quarterback Steve Stenstrom. Brown, who starred at Servite, is expected to be recovered from a shoulder injury in time to meet Florida State in the Orange Bowl. He gained more than 1,000 yards for the Cornhuskers this season. Stenstrom, one of the top passers in county history for El Toro, will face Penn State in the Blockbuster Bowl. . . . Dana Hills graduate Paul Snyder will try to win his second consecutive national title when he punts for top-ranked Miami against No. 2 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
