From Staff and Wire Reports

Bruce Pilkenton, the leading rider at the Los Alamitos quarter horse meeting with 22 winners, probably will sit out the rest of the winter season after suffering broken ribs in a spill during the 14th race Saturday night.

Pilkenton was on his way to victory aboard Lady Tweedy when the 3-year-old filly broke down about 25 yards from the wire. Pilkenton was thrown clear of his mount, but Lady Tweedy got up and appeared to step on Pilkenton’s chest. Pilkenton was taken to Los Alamitos General Hospital.
