Harris’ 24 Lead CS Long Beach to Championship at Fresno, 82-61

Lucious Harris scored 24 points to lead Cal State Long Beach to an 82-61 rout of Fresno State in the championship game of the Fresno State Classic Wednesday night.

Harris, most valuable player in the tournament, made seven of 13 shots and all eight of his free throws, adding three rebounds and three assists.

Long Beach (7-0) broke open the game late in the first half with a 20-2 run over the final four minutes. Harris scored 10 of those points and had 17 in the first half as Long Beach took a 46-24 lead.

Fresno State (5-4) had a 16-14 lead midway through the first half, but sank only three field goals over the final nine minutes of the half.

Center Chris Tower added 17 points for Long Beach. Tower and 49er teammate Byron Russell were named to the all-tournament team.

Seth Marshall and Ted Bull each scored 12 points for Fresno State, Bull doing all of his scoring in the second half. Marshall and teammate Patrick Teagues also were named to the all-tournament team, which included Chuck Robinson of Navy--younger brother David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs.

Long Beach sank 16 of 17 free throws during the first half, including 10 in a row in the final four minutes. The 49ers made 26 of 31 free throws in the game, while the Bulldogs made only 13 of 26.
