A defensive adjustment at halftime helped Monroe High turn a one-point game into a championship Wednesday, as the Vikings beat Birmingham, 56-51, in the final of the Birmingham tournament. Monroe (12-2) switched from a full-court press to a half-court trap to open the second half and outscored Birmingham (9-4), 17-5, to take a commanding 47-34 lead after three quarters.
