PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Ninth-Ranked Dana Hills Beats Trabuco Hills

Adara Newidouski scored 14 points and point guard Nicolle Zuniga added 12 points and six steals to lead Dana Hills, the ninth-ranked girls’ team in Orange County, to a 46-27 victory over Trabuco Hills in a nonleague game Monday at Dana Hills High School.

Dana Hills only outscored Trabuco Hills, 20-18, in the second half, but the Dolphins (9-2) had a 28-7 lead by halftime. Dyanna Hatch had eight points to lead the Mustangs, who made only seven of 22 free throws.

In other nonleague games:

Katella 55, Montebello Schurr 36--Chris Carrillo had 11 points, eight steals and five assists for Katella (9-2). Rachel Davis scored 11 points and Stephanie Toon added 10 for the Knights. Stacy Matsui scored eight points for host Schurr (5-4).

Troy 67, Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 40--Jenny Gadd scored 18 points for Troy (10-3), and teammates Audra Gamst and Brandee Richardson had 11 points each. Richardson also had eight rebounds for Troy, and point guard Dinah Shah added seven points and 10 assists. Santa Fe is 5-2.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Brea-Olinda 68, El Dorado 61--Wayne Spurlock had 20 points, including four three-pointers, and six rebounds to lead host Brea-Olinda (6-9).

Doug Horspool had 14 points and six rebounds and Trevor Lords added 13 points, six assists and five steals for the Wildcats, who led, 49-39, after three quarters.

Dan Watson scored 21 points and Andy Hinkle added 12 for El Dorado (5-9).

Esperanza 59, Valencia 52--Mike Thimgan scored 19 points, hitting three three-pointers, and teammate Jeff Campau had eight points for visiting Esperanza.

Bill Eubanks scored 21 points, including two three-pointers, for Valencia (7-4), and Kevin Deck added 10 points, including two three-pointers.

Mario Aguirre had six rebounds for Valencia, and freshman Josh Greer grabbed nine rebounds for Esperanza.
