Kathleen L. Davis, who served as executive director of the American Institute of Architects Orange County chapter, has died of cancer. She was 60.

Davis, who was born in St. Louis, began her career with the architects’ professional group in 1973 in Washington. She moved in 1983 to Orange County, where she became executive director of the local chapter, which, with about 1,000 members, is one of the nation’s largest. Davis handled administrative duties and public relations, a spokeswoman for the organization said.

In a Times interview two years ago, Davis said she would like to see architects get involved in the planning process at the local level in Orange County in order to raise consciousness about design.
