MOUNTAIN AREAS : Residents to Note Wildlife Sightings

Share

Hillside residents who spot a mountain lion may want to run first and ask questions later, but environmentalists are asking that they take note of the time and location of the encounter.

The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Foundation is inviting residents to help document sightings of mountain lions, coyotes and other wildlife known to live in the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains, the Simi Hills, and the Angeles and Los Padres national forests.

The foundation will use the information to support its arguments for preserving open space corridors that animals travel between the various mountain ranges and parks.

Residents who participate in the wildlife observation program will be asked to fill out cards telling the date, time and location of each sighting, the type of animal seen and details about the animal’s behavior.
