Injured quarterback Jim Kelly of the Buffalo Bills continued rehabilitating his sprained knee Monday, but the Bills won’t know until Wednesday if he will be ready for Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Miami Dolphins.

“The trainers are going to take him through a pretty good running and change-of-direction program and see how he is,” Coach Marv Levy said.

The Bills didn’t practice Monday and are off today.

Levy has said that if Kelly is ready to practice Wednesday, he will return to the starting lineup against the Dolphins.

“If he can participate fully, practice and do what he has to do on Wednesday, then we’d have to do it,” Levy said. “He and the medical department have to feel that he can comfortably operate.”

If Kelly is better, but still not 100%, Levy said the Bills won’t suit him up and have him back up Frank Reich.

“He can either play or not,” Levy said. “If he’s ready to play, he starts.”

Kelly sprained his knee in the regular-season finale against Houston. Reich has led the Bills to two playoff victories, a 41-38 comeback victory over the Oilers and Saturday’s 24-3 victory over the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
