Hersholt Winners: Two film favorites, actresses Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor, will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at this year’s Oscar ceremony on March 29, marking the first time the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has honored two individuals with the prestigious award in the same year. Hepburn and Taylor will be the 26th and 27th recipients of the award, and only the third and fourth women to be honored. (Their predecessors: Martha Raye in 1968, Rosalind Russell in 1972). The Hersholt Award, named after the late actor, recognizes individuals whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the motion picture industry. Hepburn has traveled the globe as UNICEF’s Ambassador to the World’s Children, and Taylor is known for her unrelenting support of AIDS charities.
