Angeles National Forest : 2 Wells to Supply Mt. Baldy
After determining that no significant environmental impact would occur, U.S. Forest Service officials have approved construction projects to drill two wells in the Mt. Baldy area, north of Claremont.
One well will supply water for the snow-making needs of the Mt. Baldy ski area. The other will serve 80 cabin owners, two resorts and a Forest Service campground and picnic area.
Forest Service official Karen Fortus said recent environmental studies concluded that the projects, which are not close to archeological sites, would not pose a problem for animals. She said a survey will be done to ensure that the wells are not drawing water away from plant life.
