HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Minor’s Shot at Buzzer Beats Hard-Luck Saugus

Share

Losing on a pair of free throws with five seconds left in double overtime two days earlier was tough enough for the Saugus High boys’ basketball team, but losing a Foothill League game to Canyon, 48-47, Saturday night on a shot at the buzzer was devastating.

With 10 seconds left and Saugus leading, 47-46, the Centurions (3-11, 0-3 in league play) missed a free throw. The Cowboys rebounded and passed to Greg Minor (nine points) at mid-court. Minor was loosely guarded as he pulled up behind the free-throw line and hit a 17-foot jump shot.

Charles Woodard scored 15 for Canyon (8-7, 1-1). Mike Thompson had 16 for Saugus, which lost to Burroughs in double overtime Thursday.
