Cop (USA Sunday at 2 p.m.), James B. Harris’ 1987 film of James Ellroy’s “Blood on the Moon” is as plain and direct as its title. A crackling good police procedural at once satisfyingly familiar in form yet fresh and challenging in its ideas and emotions. Stunning performances by James Wood and Lesley Ann Warren.

Da (Disney Channel Monday at 3 a.m.) In this very fine and touching 1988 film made from Hugh Leonard’s play, denial and humor become weapons against grief. A New York-based playwright (Martin Sheen) battles against the guilt and sorrow he feels during the funeral (in Ireland) of his adoptive father, his irascible Da (Barnard Hughes), by remembering him--summoning him back in all his maddening eccentricity.

Sanshiro Sugata (Bravo Tuesday at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday at 1:30 a.m.) Akira Kurosawa’s assured 1943 debut film is a stirring tale of a young man’s spiritual growth as he masters the new martial art of judo, demonstrating its superiority over Ju-jitsu. Susumu Fujita stars.
