COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Anteaters Beat Their Former Coach and His New Team in Men’s Tennis

UC Irvine defeated Boise State and former Anteater Coach Greg Patton, 4-3, in a nonconference men’s tennis match Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.

UC Irvine got all its points in singles. Chris Tontz won, 7-5, 6-3; Fred Bach won, 6-2, 7-5; Carlos Bustos won, 6-4, 7-6; and Julian Foxon won, 7-6, 7-5.

UC Irvine (3-0) lost all three doubles sets, but doubles, in which the first player to take eight games wins, are worth only one point as a whole under a new scoring system installed this year.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Hawaii 86, Cal State Fullerton 68--It was the second consecutive day that Fullerton (2-10, 0-6 in conference) lost at Hawaii. The Titans fell late Saturday, 87-65, as well.

Allison Jackson had a career-high three three-pointers for Fullerton in Sunday’s game. She finished with a team-high 18 points.

Valeria Agee had 27 points on 13 of 17 shooting from the field on Sunday for Hawaii (13-3, 7-1).

In a nonconference game:

Cal State Sacramento 66, UC Irvine 62--Yvonne Catala had 16 points and Davatte Williams had 15 for host UC Irvine (1-12). Kristy Ryan had 16 for Cal State Sacramento (10-5).
