Carlsbad Surfer Wins Santa Cruz Event

Carlsbad’s Taylor Knox won the $20,000 Billabong surf contest Monday at Santa Cruz, the second stop on the Bud Pro Surfing Tour.
No Orange County surfers reached the finals, which were contested in eight-foot surf. The best finish was by San Clemente’s Mike Parsons, who finished fourth in his semifinal heat.
Newport Beach’s Richie Collins lost in the quarterfinals, along with San Clemente’s Gavin Beschen, Seal Beach’s Marty Thomas, Vince De La Pena of Laguna Niguel and Costa Mesa’s David Giddings.
The next stop on the tour will be Jan. 30-Feb. 4 at Maui, Hawaii.
