Bicyclist Dies After Being Dragged by Car

Share

A bicyclist was killed Tuesday evening after he was hit by a car and then dragged more than 100 yards as the motorist apparently tried to “shake him off,” police said.

After the 6:50 p.m. collision, a witness told police that the driver stopped his vehicle, looked at the victim trapped under the car and then drove off.

“He knew he was dragging someone along, because he tried to get rid of the guy several times by driving up on the sidewalk,” Sgt. Dick Faust said of the hit-and-run fatality on Spurgeon Street, just north of 8th Street.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-20s but not immediately identified, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Officials were attempting to identify the man through fingerprints Tuesday night, Faust said.
