COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Five Players Score in Double Figures in SCC’s Victory

Southern California College had five players score in double figures as the Vanguards beat Westmont, 80-74, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday in Santa Barbara.

Mike West paced Southern California College with 14 points.

John Naro had 13 points, including three three-pointers, Scott Campbell and Jason McClain each had 11 and Danin Bryant 10 for Southern California College (11-7, 2-1 in conference).

Southern California shot 43% (30 of 69) from the field and made 14 of 16 from the free-throw line. West was four of four and Naro, Campbell, Eric Carmichael and Court Bickmore each made two of two. Bryant, the only SCC player to miss from the line, was two of four.

Westmont shot 54% (31 of 57) from the field and made eight of 14 from the line. Mike Spears had 21 for Westmont (10-7, 1-1).

In a nonconference game:

Christ College Irvine 89, Christian Heritage 63--Agustin Heredia scored 23 points to pace host Christ College Irvine (9-7). Heredia, a junior guard from Orange Coast College and Estancia High School, was six of 12 from the field, including three of six on three-point attempts. Heredia also made eight of 10 free throws.

D’Andre Brown had 13 for Christ College Irvine, which led, 40-38, at the half before pulling away. Christian Heritage is 1-16.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Christ College Irvine 70, The Master’s 56--Junior center Gitte Mejer had 19 points for visiting Christ College Irvine (15-4), which has won six games in a row. Gitte had three fouls in the first half and scored only two points.

Stacy Kirch came within a rebound of getting a triple double for Christ College Irvine. She had 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. The Master’s is 4-11.
