Share

A 32-year-old transient suspected of at least eight residential burglaries in Costa Mesa is being held without bail in County Jail in Santa Ana, police said Wednesday.

John Joseph Hennessey, whose last known residence was in Santa Ana, was arrested over the weekend while driving a vehicle taken from an Oriole Drive home, according to Sgt. Jerry Holloway of the Costa Mesa police.

Subsequent investigation by police indicated that Hennessey may have been involved in seven other nighttime burglaries in the city, on Colgate Drive, Fordham Drive, Starbird Circle and Cornell Drive. Police said Hennessey entered the homes through unlocked side gates and unlocked, outside garage doors and, in one case, an unsecured “doggie door.”

Hennessey was arraigned Jan. 19, Holloway said, and, at the recommendation of probation officials, was held without bail.
