Surveyors Upheld
In response to Robert J. Bruss’ legal advice (“Survey Will Settle Dispute With Neighbor,” Dec. 20), we would like to make the following response:
Of course, the ultimate arbiter of boundary disputes is a court of law. However, from the average homeowner’s position, it is wise to employ a land surveyor licensed by the State of California who operates a legitimate practice and is fully insured. In this area Bruss gave sound advice.
However, we take issue with his gratuitous comment, “Mistakes are often made, etc.” indicating that licensed surveyors are unreliable.
Quite the contrary, problems from erroneous land surveys are very few in proportion to the thousands made each year. In addition, any practitioner who performs shoddy surveys would be out of business quickly.
In conclusion, we take issue with the remark and feel that on the whole the public is well served by the land survey profession.
