Bantamweight Title Will Be on Line Tonight
Victor Rabanales of Mexico City will defend his World Boxing Council bantamweight championship tonight at the Forum against Dio Andujar, a Filipino challenger now living in Stockton.
Rabanales (33-10-2) will defend his title for the fourth time. Although he has lost 10 times, he is 19-1-1 in his last 21 bouts. His last loss was a 1991 decision at the Forum to Greg Richardson, the bantamweight champion at the time. Most observers thought Rabanales won the fight handily.
Andujar knocked out former World Boxing Assn. champion Eddie Cook in September of 1991, before Cook won his title. He also lost a disputed decision to Scotty Olson 15 months ago.
Also on tonight’s card: Heavyweights Levi Billups vs. Nathanial Fitch.
