The New England Patriots of new Coach Bill Parcells are starting to resemble the New York Giants of the 1980s.

Parcells, who won two Super Bowls in New York, hired former Giant coach Ray Perkins as offensive coordinator Monday and added six other former Giant colleagues as he selected his eight assistant coaches.

Perkins coached last season at Arkansas State. He was coach of the Giants from 1979-82, the last two years of which Parcells was his defensive coordinator. Parcells took over as head coach when Perkins moved to Alabama in 1983 and led the Giants until 1990.

Also rejoining Parcells are Al Groh (defensive coordinator and linebacker coach), Romeo Crennel (defensive line), Fred Hoaglin (offensive line), John Parker (strength and conditioning), Mike Sweatman (special teams) and Charlie Weis (tight ends).

The only assistant who has not worked with Parcells before is David Atkins, who will be offensive back coach for the Patriots. Atkins spent the last seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, coaching tight ends last season.
