Monrovia : Historic Panel Appointed

Share

The City Council on Tuesday appointed a 10-member Historic Preservation Advisory Committee to develop a strategy for preserving the city’s historic structures.

The city has a concentration of significant Victorian and Craftsman homes that until now have not been officially protected by the city, Assistant City Manager Donald R. Hopper said.

The ad-hoc committee will advise the city’s Planning Commission on a historic preservation ordinance to be drafted over the next year.

Members appointed Tuesday include the city’s historian, a lawyer, a contractor and a real estate agent. They are: Steve Baker, Eric Beilstein, William Campbell, Georgia Dragan, Nancy Page Fernandez, Joe Garcia, Tina Morris, John Petrovich, Timothy Shea and Scott Thomas.

In other action, the council voted to replace the outmoded, heavily used playground equipment in Julian Fisher and Library parks.

The swings, slides and other toys in the parks are 10 years old and cannot be repaired to expected safety standards, Public Works Director Robert Sandwick said. The replacement equipment, made of a new material that has no nuts or bolts exposed, will cost $86,000 and will be installed in April.
