COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Beats Fullerton, Stays in First Place

Saddleback remained in first place with a 65-59 victory over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Friday in Mission Viejo.

John Molle was four of 14 from the field but made all six free throws he tried to finish with a team-high 15 points for Saddleback (21-6, 9-1 in conference), which is ranked 11th in the state.

Jeff Foster added 14 points for the Gauchos, who lead Riverside by one game with four left. Saddleback plays host to Rancho Santiago Wednesday and is at Riverside Friday. Both games are at 7 p.m.

Bobby Natoya had 15 for Fullerton (13-15, 2-8).

In other conference games:

Cypress 86, Rancho Santiago 77--Robbie Shelton had 26 points and Anthony Livingston added 23 for visiting Cypress (22-7, 7-3), which moved into sole possession of third place.

Beau Hossler had 20 points and 10 assists for Rancho Santiago (17-10, 6-4), which lost for the third consecutive time. Hossler’s 10 assists gives him a career-record 330 at Rancho Santiago.

Golden West 73, Orange Coast 63--Josh Lewis and Tyler Koon each had 18 points for host Golden West (11-16, 4-6). OCC was ahead, 61-60, with 4:24 left but Golden West scored the next five points to take a 65-61 lead. Jeff Porter had 18 points for Orange Coast (4-20, 1-9).

Riverside 120, Irvine Valley 109--Raimond Migliniex had a triple double--12 points, 14 rebounds and 20 assists--for Riverside at Laguna Hills High School. His 20 assists ties a Riverside single-game record. Lou Williams had 40 points for Riverside (22-7, 8-2).

Chris Kostoff had 22 points for Irvine Valley (12-14, 3-7).

In the Fullerton Cerritos baseball tournament:

Fullerton 7, El Camino 6--Steve Fredrich hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Mickey Fortie, who opened the inning with a triple, for Fullerton (1-0). Brandon Farley hit a pinch-hit two-run double to tie the score, 6-6, highlighting a five-run eighth for the Hornets. Luke Myles pitched 2 2/3 innings to earn the victory.

Derian Slayton had three hits and two runs scored and Jeff Kafoury had three hits for Fullerton.

In the Palomar Tournament:

Saddleback 11, Mt. San Jacinto 3--Justin Drizos was three for four, with three RBIs, for Saddleback (1-0). Neil Garcia was also three for four for Saddleback.

In the Rancho Santiago Lidlifter:

Rancho Santiago 8, Long Beach 3--Chris Lugo hit a two-run double and Derek Brown hit an RBI double to highlight a four-run first inning for host Rancho Santiago (1-0).

In the College of the Desert baseball tournament:

San Bernardino 4, Cypress 3--Ricky Orr struck nine in seven innings and Greg Tippin had two hits for Cypress (0-1).
