COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Olsen’s Homer in 10th Inning Sparks Titans

D.C. Olsen hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Cal State Fullerton, ranked eighth in the nation, to a 6-4 victory over 12th-ranked Stanford in a nonconference baseball game Saturday at Titan Field.
With two outs, Fullerton catcher Adam Millan was hit by a pitch, then Olsen hit Mario Iglesias’ 2-0 pitch over the left-field fence to score pinch-runner Scott Allen. Olsen, a former Fullerton High standout, had three hits and three runs batted in.
Junior Dan Ricabal pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out 10 for the Titans (1-1).
Fullerton’s Dante Powell hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score, 4-4.
Cale Carter, a former Mater Dei standout, had a triple and a run scored for No. 12 Stanford (3-1).
In nonconference baseball:
St. Mary’s 4-0, Chapman 2-8--Buster Nietzke hit a first-inning home run for Chapman in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Bert Horn scattered four hits and struck out four in seven-plus innings, combining with Eric Sturm and Tom Pappe on the shutout for Chapman (3-2). St. Mary’s is 2-3.
Christ College Irvine 15, Occidental 7--Dan Davis homered and Shawn Harris earned the victory in relief in CCI’s season opener.
In nonconference men’s swimming:
Nevada Las Vegas 138, UC Irvine 103--Junior captain Pat Keenan won the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly for host Irvine (5-5).
In Big West Conference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 6, New Mexico State 3--Cori Crigger defeated Nievos Raton, 6-1, 6-1, for Irvine (2-2).
