Times Wins General Excellence Award

The Los Angeles Times on Saturday won the California Newspaper Publishers Assn.’s top award for general excellence in 1992 among newspapers of more than 200,000 circulation.

In addition to its first place in general excellence, the Los Angeles Times also won first place in public service, investigative and enterprise reporting, feature stories, editorial comment, sports stories and columns, commentary or criticism and second place for local spot news.

Other first-place awards to newspapers over 200,000 circulation include the Daily News of Los Angeles in local spot news and spot news photos; the Orange County Register in layout and presentation; the Sacramento Bee in feature photos, display advertising, classified advertising and literacy programs; and the San Jose Mercury News in non-local spot news, illustration and informational graphics.
