Harris, Walin to Direct Orange County All-Star Boys’ Teams
Jim Harris of Ocean View will coach the South team, and Al Walin of Magnolia will coach the North in the 28th Orange County all-star boys’ basketball game Saturday, April 24, at Orange Coast College.
The all-star girls will play before the boys’ game. El Dorado’s Gary Raya will coach the North and Newport Harbor’s Shannon Jakosky the South.
Harris led Ocean View to a second-place finish in the Sunset League with a 15-8 record. Ocean View lost in the opening round of the Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs to Riverside Poly. Harris has a 273-116 record in 16 seasons.
Walin led Magnolia to the Orange League championship and an 18-7 record. He has the second-longest tenure among county coaches, serving 19 seasons at Magnolia, where he has compiled a 178-203 record.
The El Dorado girls went 25-2 during the regular season and won the Empire League under Raya.
Jakosky is in her third year at Newport Harbor. Under her, the Sailors were Sea View League champion.
