SANTA ANA : Rally Set to Support McFadden Library
- Share via
Fearing that city budget cuts could close the McFadden Branch Library, hundreds of residents, teachers and librarians are expected to attend a rally today calling for it to remain open.
Event organizers said that despite the budget crunch, the library, at 2627 W. McFadden Ave., must remain open.
“People come to the McFadden Library from a very wide area,” said Lorna Karagiozov, a third-grade teacher at Jackson School. “The city is having to cut funding and we’re sympathetic, but we absolutely don’t want this library cut.”
Library Director Rob Richard said his department must cut 10% from its budget and acknowledged that closing McFadden is one option to save money. However, he added, that option has not been formally recommended or approved.
The rally will begin at 1 p.m. at the R-Ranch Market, 2521 W. McFadden Ave., next to the library.
