Prep All-Star Basketball Game Tonight at South

Share

Many of the area’s top senior basketball players are expected to participate in the third annual South Bay Athletic Club All-Star Classic at 7 tonight at South Torrance High.

Doug Mitchell of Bishop Montgomery and Rick Sabosky of El Segundo will coach the Red team, which features Bishop Montgomery forward Andre English, high-scoring guard Raymond Tutt of San Pedro and center Bryan Hill of Banning, the City Section 3-A Division champion.

Players for the Blue team include Torrance guard Michael Dean, the state’s scoring leader with a 33.6-point average, Westchester swingman Jason Sanders and Peninsula forward Matt Acres. Jim Nielsen of Redondo and John Mihaljevich, who recently retired as Peninsula’s coach, will coach the team. Mihaljevich replaced South Torrance’s LaMont Henry, who might not coach in the all-star game because of his team’s involvement in the Southern California regional tournament.

Regional participation also could affect the playing status of all-star selections from South, Morningside, Serra and Chadwick.

Before tonight’s game, selected players will participate in a three-point shooting contest and a dunking exhibition.
