PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Fogelson’s Homer in Opener Helps Dana Hills Sweep Fountain Valley
Dana Hills’ Chris Fogelson hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score and the Dolphins scored a run in the eighth to defeat Fountain Valley, 6-5 in the opener of a doubleheader Wednesday at Fountain Valley.
Fogelson had three hits in the first game for Dana Hills (5-2). Seth Etherton went the distance in the nightcap, yielding five hits, as Dana Hills won, 8-2. Fountain Valley fell to 4-3.
In other nonleague baseball:
Rancho Alamitos 8, Long Beach Poly 0--Erin Winemiller pitched a two-hitter, facing only 23 hitters, two over the limit, for Rancho Alamitos (5-0). Winemiller struck out four and walked none.
Cypress 5, Pacifica 3--John Amaya had three hits including a home run to lead Cypress (4-2), which scored five runs in the first inning.
Magnolia 3, Newport Harbor 0--Dennis McCown pitched a three-hitter for host Magnolia.
St. Margaret’s 19, Riverside Van Horn 0--Catcher Lupe Rodriguez went three for four with three runs scored for St. Margaret’s (4-0). Rodriguez scored Rick Miller on a home run in the first inning.
Mitch Kelley, who earned the victory for host St. Margaret’s, struck out every batter he faced in his three-inning stint.
