HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Chatsworth Wins on Hit in 7th

Sophomore Ray Daryabigi singled through a drawn-in infield with one out in the seventh inning to give host Chatsworth High a 10-9 victory over Granada Hills in a Northwest Valley Conference game Thursday.

Chatsworth (4-2, 2-0 in league play) blew a 7-0 lead. Granada Hills rallied to tie the score, 9-9, by scoring three times in the seventh.

In the bottom of the inning, Ryan Mort led off with a single, his third of the game, and Blair Beardsley followed with a bunt single. With one out and runners at second and third, Daryabigi’s single scored Mort.

Mark Lopez (1-0) earned the victory in relief. Jon Mayer had three hits, including two doubles, for Granada Hills (2-5, 0-2).

In other baseball games:

Taft 15, San Fernando 8--Taft (6-1, 1-1) scored six runs in the first and held a 10-1 lead in a Northwest Valley Conference game at home. Stacy Kleiner and Josh Irving each had two hits for Taft. Eddie Lopez doubled and homered for San Fernando.

Cleveland 7, Reseda 4--Matt Tays, Scott Foli, Tim Maguire and Mike Flegenheimer each had two hits for Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Mike Immken pitched a complete game and hit a triple.

Khanti Simmons of Cleveland and Carlos Nunez of Reseda each had inside-the-park homers.

Sylmar 9, Van Nuys 2--Carlos Velasco (3-0) allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings for the host Spartans (5-2, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Jaime Cordero hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs.

Victor Gonzalez went three for four for Van Nuys (2-4, 0-2).

Poly 13, Canoga Park 1--Gerry Delgado led an 11-hit attack with two hits and three RBIs for Poly, and Danny Martinez, Luis Nunez and Bobby Iglesias each had two hits and two RBIs. Iglesias has 10 hits in his last 13 at-bats.

Birmingham 14, Grant 10--Rusty Howard doubled, homered and had four RBIs for Grant. Justin Salazar added two hits and five RBIs.

Lincoln 6, Verdugo Hills 5 (8 innings)--Eddie Powell homered and singled for host Verdugo Hills (1-5, 0-2) in a Northern Conference game.

Calabasas 9, St. Bonaventure 9--Colin Fields was two for three with two RBIs, and Josh Morton extended his hitting streak to 25 games for Calabasas in a game suspended after five innings because of darkness.

Oakwood 6, Bel-Air Prep 5--Brandon DiMassa and Jon Dennis led off the sixth with back-to-back home runs to tie the score for Oakwood and Oliver Netburn singled home Greg Okun with the winning run later in the inning.

SOFTBALL

Simi Valley 5, Agoura 0--Junior Sara Griffin pitched her second no-hitter of the season to lead the host Pioneers (7-0, 1-0) in a Marmonte league opener. Griffin also hit a triple and a single and drove in two runs.

Thousand Oaks 4, Royal 3--Center fielder Nicole Ochoa threw out Royal’s Tricia Pohlert at the plate in the sixth inning to preserve the Lancer victory in a Marmonte League opener. Ochoa, who has signed a letter of intent with Cal State Long Beach, had two of the Lancers’ three hits, including a two-run home run in the third.

Alemany 10, Harvard-Westlake 0--Sophie Contrerras threw a perfect game in a Mission League opener. Contrerras (4-0), a sophomore right-hander, had eight strikeouts in her second no-hitter of the season.

Saugus 7, San Clemente 4--Kelli Kranz had two triples and a single to give host Saugus (8-4) a first-round victory in the Laguna Hills tournament.

El Camino Real 5, Birmingham 1--Jennifer Gould’s one-hitter paced the Conquistadores (5-2) in a nonleague game. Gould (5-2) also had three hits.

Reseda 8, Verdugo Hills 2--Jenaye Brown went three for three and winning pitcher Rosie Yeates drove in two runs during an eight-run fourth inning for the Regents (4-0) in a nonleague game.

Oak Park 11, Santa Paula 7--Kristin Becker was one for two with two RBIs in the Eagles’ win at Santa Paula. Christy Argast (1-0) pitched four strong innings to win in her first start.

BOYS’ TRACK

Glendale 100, Burroughs 35--Armen Petrosian won the 200 meters in 23.64 seconds and ran legs on both of the Nitros’ winning relay teams in a nonleague meet at Burroughs.
