ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks’ String at 53 Matches

Pete Gutierrez, Amit Ahuja and John Curiale swept their singles matches to lead Thousand Oaks High to a 17-1 victory over Simi Valley in a Marmonte League boys’ tennis match Friday at Thousand Oaks.

Thousand Oaks (7-2, 4-0) has won 53 consecutive matches between the schools. Simi Valley (4-6, 2-2) last beat the Lancers in 1968.

BASEBALL

Quartz Hill 12, Littlerock 4--William Wallace had two hits, including a home run, and Freddie Coleman pitched a complete game in a Golden League victory for the Rebels (5-2, 3-0).

Littlerock (2-5, 0-3) had 10 hits, including two each by Lonnie Shipman, Sunny Tuft, Toine Jager and David Anderson, but committed six errors.

Campbell Hall 12, Highland Hall 8--John Pollak had three hits and three runs batted in to lead the Vikings in a nonleague game at Campbell Hall.

C.J. Thompkins and Joe Rainey each had two hits for the Vikings (4-4). Junior right-hander Ben Arnold (1-1) struck out a school-record 13 batters for Campbell Hall.

*BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal d. Thousand Oaks, 15-8, 15-6, 15-12--The Highlanders (5-0, 4-0) took over sole possession of first place in the Marmonte League. Thousand Oaks fell to 6-1, 3-1. Jason Hughes led Royal with 22 kills and seven aces, including six in a row in the second game. Steve Hodge added 18 kills and Josh White had 52 assists for the winners. The victory was the 99th in the Royal program’s history.

Hart d. Littlerock, 15-6, 15-0, 15-6--Chad Strickland, Keith Matkin and Bryan Ellis each had four kills to lead Hart (6-0, 4-0) in a Golden League match at Littlerock.

Camarillo d. Agoura, 7-15, 9-15, 15-12, 15-12, 15-9--Andy Angeles had 27 kills and added 10 blocks and 34 assists to lead the comeback for the Scorpions (4-2, 3-1) in a Marmonte League match at Agoura.

Newbury Park d. Westlake, 10-15, 15-3, 16-14, 10-15, 16-14--Jeff Hanmer and Paul Niedermuller each had 13 kills for the Panthers, 5-1, 4-0 in Marmonte League play.

*MEN’S TRACK

Santa Barbara Easter Relays--Ryan Luce, Kevin DePew, Scott Scheirmann and Dorian Valdez, former high school rivals in the Marmonte League, teamed to win the men’s 4 x 800-meter relay in 7 minutes 53.67 seconds for Moorpark at Santa Barbara City College.

Luce attended Royal High, DePew went to Agoura, Scheirmann to Westlake and Valdez to Simi Valley.

*WOMEN’S SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 7, Victor Valley 0--Angie LePage (9-2) pitched a one-hitter in a Foothill Conference game at Victor Valley that was called after six innings because of rain. LePage allowed a one-out single in the fourth, struck out 12 and walked none. Antelope Valley is 18-3, 6-0 in the conference.
