CYPRESS — Two men were arrested Sunday morning after they allegedly shot at an officer and then led police on a brief chase, authorities said. The officer was not hurt.
The incident began at 2:10 a.m. when police responded to an emergency call in the 5700 block of Lemon Street. When they arrived, the officers saw a car speeding from the scene, said Cypress Sgt. Sandy Stanton.
As the officers tried to pull the vehicle over, someone from the car fired at the police cruiser, missing it and the officers inside, Stanton said. One passenger crawled out of the car and was not arrested, she added.
The car sped away, heading south on Valley View Street, before turning into a cul-de-sac, where it was trapped. Police arrested two men and recovered a handgun.
Arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon and evading a police officer were Darryl Grover McLain, 27, of Santa Ana, and Lawrence Kahae Beckley, 24, of Garden Grove.
Beckley was also held on an unrelated warrant for his arrest alleging robbery and drug possession, Stanton said.
