Thompson Goes for 2nd NIT Title

NEW YORK —
John Thompson, the center on Providence’s 1963 National Invitation Tournament title team, can capture another NIT crown tonight when his Georgetown Hoyas play Minnesota at Madison Square Garden.
If Georgetown (20-12) beats Minnesota (21-10), Thompson would become the second person to win the NIT as a player and coach. Jeff Jones did it, coaching Virginia to the title after playing on the Cavaliers’ 1980 championship team.
