VALLEY AREA ROUNDUP : Newbury Park Wins 7th in Row

Junior right-hander Keith Smith scattered six singles and Newbury Park scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat Saugus, 3-2, Monday and win its seventh consecutive game in the second round of the Babe Herman Tournament at Glendale.
Newbury Park (8-6) broke a 1-1 tie against Bobby Cowan (1-4) on run-scoring singles by Rich Adams and Jason Tubb in the sixth.
Smith (3-2) struck out four and got the last with the tying run on third after a run-scoring single by Mike McGuigan of Saugus (8-6) in the seventh.
El Camino Real 13, Granada Hills 7--Mike Smith, Daniel Cey, Randy Wolf and Justin Balser each had two hits to lead the Conquistadores (10-1, 6-0) past Granada Hills in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Woodland Hills.
Wilson’s three-run shot enabled Burroughs to overcome a two-run deficit. Mike Delgado went three for four for the Indians.
Montclair Prep 9, Bakersfield 3--Darryl Dent was two for three with a double, two RBIs, three runs and stole five bases to lead the Mounties in the Sundevil Tournament at Las Vegas.
Dent, a sophomore center fielder, has season-total of 18 stolen bases.
Justin Sampley (4-0) gave up one earned run as Montclair Prep won its eighth consecutive game.
Littlerock 10, Village Christian 1--Toine Jager and Raul Rosete both had two hits to lead the Lobos past Village Christian (4-5) in a first-round game of the Northern Santa Barbara tournament.
Mike Spielman was two for three for the Crusaders.
Burroughs 6, Glendale 3--Troy Wilson hit a three-run homer to lead the Indians (3-7) past the Dynamiters in the Babe Herman tournament.
Irvine University 6, Westlake 1--Rob Murray and Kasey Davis had two hits apiece for the Warriors (5-8) in the Babe Herman tournament.
Van Nuys 8, Poly 6--Catcher Alex Alvarenga had two hits and three RBIs, leading the Wolves (5-6, 5-1) to a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory. Jaime Cerna drove in three runs for the Parrots (4-8, 1-5).
Ventura 18, Masada 1--Derek Swafford had a home run and a triple and drove in four runs for the Cougars (7-5) in a Thousand Oaks tournament game. Duane Mathis had five hits for Ventura and Danny Lopez added three.
Santa Clara 2, Calabasas 0--Sergio Haros’ two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning gave the Saints (5-2, 4-0) a Frontier League victory.
L.A. Baptist 10, Marshall Fundamental 7--Zack Hernandez had three hits and his brother, Matt, pitched a complete game, leading the Knights (9-4, 3-1) to an Alpha League victory.
SOFTBALL
Alemany 5, Sylmar 0--Sophomore right-hander Sophie Contreraz (11-0) threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts to help the Indians (11-2) beat Sylmar (9-4) in a nonleague game.
Anngela Hallak went two for three with two RBIs.
Louisville 10, L.A. Baptist 3--Lindsay Harris pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine, and Michele Horner had three hits for the Royals (9-5).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Pierce 12, San Diego City 2--Brian Basowski had a triple, home run and five RBIs for the Brahmas in the nonleague game at Woodland Hills.
Basowski tripled in two runs in the fourth to give Pierce (14-10) a 4-1 lead, and his three-run home run in the sixth made it 9-1.
Pierce’s Adam West (3-2) scattered five hits over seven innings, striking out seven.
Claremont-Mudd 4, The Master’s 1--The Stags scored two runs in the third inning on wild pitches and won a nonconference game.
