1993 PREP BASKETBALL / Los Angeles Times ALL-STARS : 20 Players Who Got Their Points Across on the Court : Girls: Standouts from traditional powers are joined by stars from Crescenta Valley and Franklin.

While La Canada, Marshall and Flintridge Sacred Heart maintained their status, Crescenta Valley and Franklin helped to improve the overall strength of girls’ basketball in the Glendale area this past season.

La Canada repeated as Rio Hondo League champion, Marshall was unbeaten in the Northern Conference and Flintridge Sacred Heart won the Sunshine League.

Crescenta Valley, under first-year Coach Marc Ward, won its first Pacific League championship. Franklin advanced to the City Section playoffs.

All of these teams are represented on The Times’ 1993 Glendale all-star team. The 10 players were selected based upon ballots received from area coaches, all of whom were asked to participate.

Players selected to the first team will be honored at a breakfast April 18 at the Pasadena Hilton. The area player and coach of the year will also be announced at the breakfast.

Here is a player-by-player look at the team:

Yammir Carbonell, Eagle Rock--Carbonell, a 5-foot-1 junior guard, averaged 17.3 points a game for the Eagles. She also averaged four rebounds and four assists for a team that figures to be a contender for the Northern Conference title next season.

Liz Doud, Flintridge Sacred Heart--Doud, a junior, averaged 15 points for the Tologs. She was a solid rebounder who helped provide leadership the team.

Nancy Evans, Hoover--Evans, a senior, averaged 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals for the Tornadoes. Evans will attend Arizona in the fall on a softball scholarship.

Maria Fulay, Marshall--Fulay, a 5-3 senior guard, averaged 13.2 points and four rebounds for the Barristers, who were undefeated in the Northern Conference. Fulay led Marshall to an upset victory over Fremont in the City 4-A Division playoffs.

Sarah Hagman, Crescenta Valley--Hagman, a 5-9 junior, averaged 16 points, five rebounds and six assists for the Falcons, who outlasted Pasadena, Arcadia, Glendale, Hoover and Muir for the Pacific League championship.

Nada Kawar, Crescenta Valley--Kawar, a 6-2 senior, was the dominant center in the area. She averaged 14 points and 14 rebounds, leading Crescenta Valley to the second round of the Southern Section playoffs.

Melissa Lord, La Canada--Lord, The Times’ Glendale player of the year in 1991, finished her high school career with a dominant season. The 6-foot Lord averaged 21.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists for the Spartans and set school record for points in a season (610) and career (1,625).

Monika Nagy, Glendale--A solid low-post player for the Dynamiters, Nagy held her own against the strongest players in the Pacific League. She impressed opposing coaches with her physical play and rebounding.

Olga Olivera, Franklin--Olivera, a 5-8 junior, averaged 12.9 points, seven rebounds and two assists. She should be one of the best players in the Northern Conference next season.

Miranda Petrossian, Verdugo Hills--Petrossian, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 20 points and 14 assists for the Dons.
