South Los Angeles : Hearing Scheduled on 2 Liquor Stores

Share

The Planning Commission has scheduled a May 10 public hearing on the proposed rebuilding of two riot-damaged liquor outlets.

The sites are a 5,238-square-foot residential and commercial building at 6701 S. Normandie Ave. with four apartment units and a mini-market that is seeking to sell a full line of alcoholic beverages, and a 3,062-square-foot mini-market at 8277 S. San Pedro St. that has applied to sell beer and wine.

Jim Williams, a planning consultant who represents the owners of the two stores, said he has collected 150 signatures from nearby residents who support the reopening of the markets.

Sylvia Castillo, of the Community Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and treatment, said that it was unclear whether alcohol sales at the stores were related to crime. She said the coalition is still gathering testimony from residents.

The 9 a.m. hearing will be at City Hall, 200 N. Spring St.
