HOLLYWOOD PARK : Individualist Wins Feature by a Head

Individualist overtook J.F. Williams just before the finish Wednesday to win the $55,000 Indulto Handicap by a head at Hollywood Park.

Individualist, ridden by Kent Desormeaux and carrying 116 pounds, covered 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:27 4/5 and paid $8, $3.80 and $2.40.

The victory was the 10th in 45 starts for Individualist and was worth $30,250, raising the earnings of the 6-year-old California-bred gelding to $697,275.

J.F. Williams, ridden by Corey Nakatani and carrying 115 pounds, crossed the finish line two lengths in front of Exemplary Leader and returned $3 and $2.20.

Exemplary Leader, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 116 pounds, was 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Infamous Deed at the wire and paid $2.60 to show.

Infamous Deed finished fourth in the race for 4-year-olds and up, followed by Music Merci, Silver Ending, Fast Cure, Bossanova and Real West. Prospect For Four was scratched.

J.F. Williams was coupled with Silver Ending, and the entry went off the 9-5 betting favorite. Individualist was the 3-1 second choice.

Delahoussaye was aboard three winners Wednesday. Desormeaux and David Flores recorded two victories each.
