Whitaker Wins to Advance to Golden Gloves Semifinals

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Lance Whitaker of San Fernando defeated Marcus Johnson of Chicago on Thursday night to advance to the semifinals of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions.
Whitaker, nicknamed “The Undertaker,” is 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds.
He joins Levone Seegars of Washington, Marcus McYntire of Indiana and Edward Mahone of St. Louis in the semifinals.
Mahone defeated Maurice May of Knoxville, McYntire ousted Stan Chambers of Detroit and Seegars eliminated Isaac Green of Pennsylvania.
Whitaker used his considerable reach to upset defending champion Alvin Manley of Little Rock on Wednesday night.
