PASADENA : Man Slain by Police After Killing His Wife

Share

A family dispute that began with a north Pasadena woman threatening her stepdaughter with a rifle ended Monday night when the father shot and killed his wife and in turn was killed by police.

Pasadena Police Lt. Wayne Hiltz said the incident started about 9 p.m. Monday when Toni Cervera, 37, and her 13-year-old stepdaughter argued.

The girl told police that her stepmother had grabbed a .22-caliber rifle and threatened her. Her father, Enrique Cervera, then took the rifle from the stepmother and shot her to death, the teen-ager said.

The girl, unhurt, fled to her uncle’s home next door on Summit Avenue while her father barricaded himself in the home, Hiltz said.

Pasadena police sealed off the area and evacuated 30 nearby residents. Cervera opened the front door at 11:20 p.m. and fired one shot at the officers, Hiltz said. Police fired back and fatally wounded the 60-year-old man.
