NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Firm Donates Cereal to Homeless Shelter

Share

Homeless residents of the Valley Shelter in North Hollywood and its affiliates will start their days a little healthier, thanks to a donation of breakfast cereal from a plywood manufacturer, shelter officials said Tuesday.

Jeff Farber, director of social services for L. A. Family Housing Corp., said the monthly donation of high-fiber cereal from Goldenberg Plywood and Lumber Co. in Lynwood will provide 336 meals a month for residents of the Valley Shelter and the Chernow Shelter and Triangle House in Boyle Heights.

The first shipment arrived last week, Farber said.

“I didn’t think they were going to like it because they usually say, ‘Ugh, health food,’ ” Farber said. “The residents really like it. It’s like granola. It’s a great thing because it breaks the monotony of the other types of things you get donated. Usually, they eat puffed rice.”
