‘Action’ Heroes

Three cheers for Terry Pristin’s article about Zak Penn and Adam Leff, the original creators of Columbia Pictures’ “Last Action Hero” (“Well, They Wanted Action,” May 16).

These two guys, fresh on the streets, have not only boldly gone where no new writers have gone before, but managed to attract the No. 1 box-office draw, the “Almighty Arnold.”

In a town where there are reams of broken dreams, and casualties among the creative literary community, it is refreshing to see a pair of young men who have reinvented the game to create their own “big break.” Though perhaps not entirely ethical, the two covertly generated enough hype to pique even the interest of the major Hollywood players.

As a fellow screenwriter, I take solace in this rags-to-riches story and will continue to develop my craft, so that I too may someday share in their success. Watch out, Penn and Leff, I’m right behind you!
