GARY YOUNG 100, 200 Woodbridge, Jr. A foot injury after Sea View League prelims cut Young’s promising season short, otherwise he might have been fast enough to qualify for the State meet. His best in the 100 was 10.82 and his best in the 200 was 22.09.

ETHAN TAUB 400 Foothill, Jr. Taub’s best of 48.12 helped him reach the State meet final. He was the Orange County champion and also finished second in the Southern Section Division II final.

TAD HEATH 800 Foothill, Sr. Heath was the fastest county 800 runner for the second consecutive season. His best this season was 1:53.54. He was the section Division II and Orange County champion.

TONY GARCIA 110 High Hurdles Foothill, Jr. It was a down year in hurdling in Orange County, but Garcia won the county championship and had a season-best of 14.92, showing the event’s future could be bright.

ANTON HECTOR 300 Intermediate Hurdles Esperanza, So. One of the fastest-improving athletes at the end of the season, Hector saved his best running for May and June. His best of 37.80 came in the Masters meet on May 28.

VICTOR TIBORCZSZEGHY (So.), ANTON HECTOR (So.), DAHRIN FOOTMAN (So.), KREEM CLARK (So.) 400-meter Relay Esperanza Going without a senior, the Aztecs had a best of 42.51, finished second in the Division II final and qualified for the Masters meet. The future is bright for this group.

ETHAN TAUB (Jr.), DON OLIVER (Jr.), MIKE LYNCH (Sr.), TAD HEATH (Sr.) 1,600-meter Relay Foothill The Knights lowered the county best for a 1,600-relay team to 3:14.99 and had the third-best qualifying time in the State meet prelims.

BRIAN CARLSON High jump Katella, Sr. There was a good reason why Carlson was often confused with older brother, Kevin, this year. They are the only two county jumpers to clear 7-0. Kevin won the Division II title.

TONY PARRISH Long jump, triple jump Marina, Sr. You have to wonder how far Parrish would have triple-jumped if not for a sore left foot. His best was a wind-aided 51-0 in the State meet prelims, the top qualifying mark. He also long-jumped 22-7.

CHAD PEARE Shotput, discus Trabuco Hills, Sr. Peare left little doubt as to the best weight events athlete. His best shotput mark was 60-11. His discus best of 191-11 was the top mark in the State this year. He qualified for the State meet finals in both events.

GARY VAN SLUIS Pole vault El Modena, Sr. He established a career-best with a 15-4 clearance in the State prelims, becoming the top county vaulter for the second consecutive season. He also won the Division II title this year.
