THOUSAND OAKS : Homeless Man Held After Brush Fire
A 35-year-old homeless man was being held Thursday in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of setting a half-acre brush fire in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department arrested Jack Van Vlect about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after firefighters saw him near the fire at Ventu Park and Newbury roads next to the Ventura Freeway.
The fire was put out quickly and no one was injured, a spokeswoman for the county Fire Department said.
Van Vlect is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
