Older Developments Need More Lighting

Share

* According to “Flap Over Street Lights’ Color” on June 6, some San Diegans dislike sodium street lights. But I agree with the astronomers that there’s no need for a mass of white lights over a city.

After moving to Thousand Oaks from L.A. County three years ago, we looked up and were happy to see there were still stars in the sky. But many roads in this city are lighted only at intersections, calling into question the safety of walking or biking at night. Thousand Oaks adequately lights new developments, but what about the old ‘hoods? They need lights too, low or high in sodium. Colored lights avoid the megalopolis syndrome.
