A subsidiary of Matthews Studio Equipment Group, a Burbank-based company that makes, sells and rents camera and lighting support equipment for films, has acquired for $550,000 all of the equipment and assets of J&L; Service Inc.
The purchase of the grip and lighting production rental equipment from J&L; Service, which is undergoing bankruptcy reorganization proceedings, by Matthew’s Hollywood Rental Co. Inc. subsidiary was approved by U. S. District Court Judge Calvin Ashland in Los Angeles.
The purchase came six weeks after Hollywood Rental bought out competitor Keylite Holdings Inc. and its affiliates in a deal valued at $4.2 million.
